Members participate in club activities at their own risk.
By Affiliating to British Cycling, the Ross-Shire Roads CC is insured against third party liability. The policy only indemnifies the club in respect of its legal liability for accidental loss or damage to third party property or accidental bodily injury or death to third party persons. It does not include personal accident cover, liability for accidents caused by club members, or damage to equipment.
Members of British Cycling can obtain varying levels of insurance depending on their membership, ranging from bike insurance up to personal accident insurance and more.
It is strongly advised that all members actively involved in cycling at any level obtain appropriate insurance such as that provided by British Cycling and that silver or ride membership be considered as a minimum.
During all group rides run by the club and the ad hoc rides various hand signals and calls will be used. For those who are new to riding in a group these may be alien but are actually very easy to understand once you know them. Below is a list of possible calls and descriptions of hand signals that may be used.
Car Up: Car approaching from in front of the group
Car Back: Car approaching from behind the group
Change: Change the rider/s on the front of the group. In single file, this is normal done by the front rider moving slightly to the left and slowing slightly before rejoining at the back of the group. If riding side by side, the left hand column drops back one rider while the front right rider moves to the head of the left hand column.
Pointing Towards the ground: Pointing out any obstructions in the road. Aka: a pothole/roadkill/larger stone
Waving Towards the ground: Indicating a loose surface on the road. Aka: gravel/sand/animal waste
Hand Behind the back pointing towards one side: Indicating that the group needs to move over. Normally done if approaching walkers or slower moving cyclists
Arm Moving up and down to the side: Slowing down for something in front of the group
Flicking an elbow at riders side: Indicting rider is struggling and requesting a change of rider on the front be done earlier than maybe planned.
Whistle Blast: This is normally only used in the chain-gang and this is the signal to change the rider on the front of the group.
Club kit is supplied via Pactimo. We have a custom shop that is opened from time to time. This can be done if there is enough desire to do so but is normally opened at the beginning of spring and later on in the year at a minimum.
